FOTD: An Easy Day Look

Hi Everyone!

My last post was about a weekend getaway to Amritsar. It's a Temple town so I thought it best to sport a traditional, yet smart look for the day around town. This is a universal day look, whether you are out for coffee with friends, at work or shopping.

I have used a bare minimum of products to create this look.

Products Used:
  1. Olay Total Effects Day Cream
  2. Za True White Foundation OC 30
  3. City Color Cheek Stain in Mauve
  4. Himalaya Kajal
  5. Elle 18 Liquid Eyeliner in Black
  6. Oriflame Powershine Lipstick in Cocoa Burst

LOTD: Soft,Romantic, Spring/Valentine's Day Look

Hey Everyone!

I can smell spring in the air! And to celebrate that I have put together an easy soft, romantic look that can be worn during the day. You can even sport this on your Valentine's Day date!

I have paired a gold eye with soft coral lips and a hint of rose on the cheeks.

Products Used for this look:

Face:
  1. Bodyography Primer
  2.  Lakme CC Cream in Bronze
  3. Chambor Light and Sheer Skin Highlighter
  4. Faces Vanishing Act Concealer
  5. City Color Cheek Stain
Eyes:
  1. LaSplash Eye Primer
  2. Beauty UK Eyeshadow Collection (I have used the highlighter, Gold and Bronze shades)
  3.  Florelle Kajal Eye Pencil
  4. Maybelline New York Volum Express Mascara
Lips:
  1. Oriflame Very Me Lip Crayon in Coral
  2. Maybelline New York Lip Polish in Glam 3

I did not use a liquid/gel eyeliner to maintain the overall soft look.

I have kept the look really soft and dewy. I did not use a powder since I wanted to avoid the matte look so early on on spring (there will be enough time for that in the long Indian summers).

Product Review and NOTD with #Oriflame Pure Color Nail Polish Mini in Burgundy Wine

Hey Everyone!!

I have been a long-time Oriflame user. I have liked most of their products. So I will be reviewing another product from their stables.

In recent months I have been really drawn to simple nail art and have built a decent collection of nail polishes.

Today's NOTD is Burgundy Wine nails with a Gold accent.

So here goes....

Product Claim: Glossy, high-shine nail polish in a wide range of exciting shades. Gorgeous finish, fantastic colours.

Product Price:  INR 129/- for 6ml

My Take on the Product:

I have usually liked using Oriflame products, especially their colour cosmetics. I really liked using the Midnight Blue (check out the review HERE ) from this range of Nail Polishes. However ,I was quite disappointed by their Burgundy Wine variant! he formula is very thin and runny and you need at least 3 coats for a near opaque finish. The colour itself is quite gorgeous with really tiny shimmer particles which gives it a nice glow.

Another problem was that the tips began to wear off within a few hours. By the end of the first day, the polish had begun to chip off. Even after refreshing the polish, it chipped from the tips within  a few hours. However, I did not face this issue with the Midnight Blue variant.

This variant will perform better with a base and a top coat.

Pros:
1. Lovely Shade
2. Tiny shimmer particles make it a nice colour to wear on a regular basis.

Cons:
1. Very runny and thin formula
2. Needs at least 3 coatstolook close to opaque.
3. Tips wear off within a few hours.
4.Chips by the next day of applicaition.

Overall Verdict: 2/5

Product Review: Oriflame Pure Colour Nail Polish Mini in Midnight Blue (30803) and a Festive Spirit: NOTD in Moons in Midnight!

Hey All!

I bought the Oriflame Pure Colour Nail Polish Mini in Midnight Blue (30803) but hadn't got around to using it. But as it got colder and foggier I thought to myself,  "Winters is a season for dark colours and some shine". So I combined the two for this NOTD. And then I thought, "Lets add a review too".

So here goes......

What the Brochure Said:

Glossy, high-shine nail polish in a wide range of exciting shades. Gorgeous finish, fantastic colours.

Price: INR 129/- for 6ml

 My Thoughts:

The product comes in a transparent, cylindrical glass bottle with a black screw cap. The lettering in silver looks pretty. The brush is good and helps an even application. The formula is a nice consistency that applies smoothly without uneven patches. You need at least two coats for true colour. On application of three coats the nail polish lasts upto 4-5 days till it starts to fade from the tips of the nails. It gives a lovely finish. There are really tiny shimmer particles which give it a slight pearly finish. The product dries fairly quickly. I was able to remove it fairly easily using a regular nail polish remover.

Pros:
  1. Good packaging.
  2. Good brush which helps smooth application.
  3. Gives true colour in two coats.
  4. Lasts 4-5 days.
  5. Good finish.
  6. Dries quickly.
  7. Easily removed.
Cons:
None really.

Overall Verdict:
This is a great product at this price point.  4.75/5!

 And here's the NOTD!!

LOTD: Navami Morning and Evening Looks

Hi All!

Durga Puja 2014 is nearly over. Both exhilarating and exhausting! So I'll be doing both, the morning and evening looks in the same post.

For the morning, I chose to wear a light silk sari with gold accents. For the makeup I decided to do a muted green smokey eye and a neutral lip. For this I chose the Cameleon Eyeshadow palette for the eyes and used Maybelline New York Lip Polish's Glam 13.

For the Evening I decided a go a bit dramatic with a black sari with copper embellishments. For the makeup, I chose a dark brown smokey eye and purple lips. For the eyes I chose the Oriflame Eyeshadow palette in Nude and Gray and for the lips Oriflame Beauty Lipstick in Perpetually Purple and applied Estee Lauder Pure Color High gloss in #6 Coral Chic.

Let me know your thoughts about these looks. Looking forward to hearing from you!

LOTD: Ashtami Morning

Hi Everyone!

Well, here's my look for  Ashtami Morning of Durga Puja. I decided to go all traditional. Ashtami, traditionally, is the most important day of the festival.

The story of Durgashtami
  • Goddess kali culminated from the forehead of Devi Durga on this day and killed Mahishasur — the king of Demons and his associates—Chanda and Munda.
  • On this day, Mother Durga annihilated Bhairo Nath, an evil 'tantric', in the form of Vaishno Devi. This incident leads to the history of establishment of the pilgrimage of Vaishno devi and it is said that the famous Bhairo nath temple lies at the site where the head of Bhairo Nath fell after being cut off by the Goddess.
Rituals Associated with Durgashtami
  • On this day, all the weapons and artillery that were used for killing Mahishasur by Goddess Durga are worshipped along with the enchanting of mantras. This ritual is known as Astra puja.
  • During the worship of the Mother, the eight avatars of Durga called Ashtanayikas are also worshipped which include Brahmani, Indrani, Vaishnavi, Varahi, Narasinghi, Kameshwari, Maheshwari and Chamunda.
  • 64 Yoginis who are considered the Devi's associates are also worshipped.
  • On this day, the deity is worshipped as Goddess Gauri. To observe this, nine small virgin girls are worshipped, their feet are washed and they are offered halwa (a sweet disg made of semolina, milk, ghee and nuts), puri and kheer a part of the ritual.
  • Durgashtami ends with the Sandhi Puja that ushers the next day Mahanavami.

So, I decided, traditional was the way to go. Wearing a sari was a foregone conclusion.
For my makeup I decided to go with a neutral smokey eye a long with bright red lips.

  1.  Bodyography Foundation Primer in Clear
  2. Lakme CC Cream in Bronze
  3. Faces Canada Concealer
  4. Maybelline New York Clear and Glow Compact in Nude Beige
  5. Beauty UK Blush in Rustic Peach
  6. MUA Bronzer Mosaiz in Sunkissed (02)
