LOTD: A Indian Wedding Guest

Hello Everyone!

Its raining 'looks'... Well with the vacations on, I just have a bit more time than usual. This was a mid-summer wedding in Delhi. Its crazily hot this time of the year. So I did not want a very heavily laden look. I wanted the look to be light and airy, yet with a dash of colour. So I chose a grey Dhakai saree with a red border. I kept the look very minimalist, keeping in mind the hot evening. I used a neutral, shimmer palette for the eyes, peachy cheeks and tied the look together with a bright red lip colour.

Products Used:
  1. Bodyography Foundation Primer
  2. Olivia Foundation Pan Stick Shade Natural (03)
  3. Maybelline New York Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting concealer in Honey

LOTD: Soft,Romantic, Spring/Valentine's Day Look

Hey Everyone!

I can smell spring in the air! And to celebrate that I have put together an easy soft, romantic look that can be worn during the day. You can even sport this on your Valentine's Day date!

I have paired a gold eye with soft coral lips and a hint of rose on the cheeks.

Products Used for this look:

Face:
  1. Bodyography Primer
  2.  Lakme CC Cream in Bronze
  3. Chambor Light and Sheer Skin Highlighter
  4. Faces Vanishing Act Concealer
  5. City Color Cheek Stain
Eyes:
  1. LaSplash Eye Primer
  2. Beauty UK Eyeshadow Collection (I have used the highlighter, Gold and Bronze shades)
  3.  Florelle Kajal Eye Pencil
  4. Maybelline New York Volum Express Mascara
Lips:
  1. Oriflame Very Me Lip Crayon in Coral
  2. Maybelline New York Lip Polish in Glam 3

I did not use a liquid/gel eyeliner to maintain the overall soft look.

I have kept the look really soft and dewy. I did not use a powder since I wanted to avoid the matte look so early on on spring (there will be enough time for that in the long Indian summers).

LOTD: End of Durga Puja 2014

Hi All!

Well Pujas ended yesterday and I was so exhausted that I just couldn't manage to put up this post the day before.

Last day of Puja means bidding farewell to the Goddess. And when a married daughter prepares to leave her natal home after too brief a visit, Her family showers her with blessings and good wishes by gifting her various auspicious gifts celebrating her married status.

The Goddess's Shringar is done by rubbing two beetle leaves on her cheeks (an effective beauty treatment). Then sindur or red vermillion (the most powerful symbol of a married woman among Hindus) is applied to her forehead and the parting of her hair. She is then blessed with durva grass and unhusked paddy (both, symbols of fertility). Finally she is offered sweets, signifying the sweetness of marital life.

This ritual is performed only by married women. After this is done, the women offer sindurto each other as a celebration of marital life and wishing each other a long and happy marriage (ward off widowhood on the other hand, since it is considered the highest misfortune that can befall a woman, among Hindus).

I was unable to click any of my pics here so I'm using photos which I found on the net. The references are given.

I chose to keep my look simple for the day. Not too much makeup since most of it would get covered in sindur. I stuck to the traditional colours of white and red but the outfit was more modern. For the makeup, I applied a wash of the plum shade with a hint of bronze shimmer (Cameleon Eyeshadow Palette). Black eyeliner on the top lashline with a dash of white completed the eye. For the lips I lined them with NYX Slim Pencil in Chocolat and glossed over with Sally Hansen Lip Gloss in Sunset

  2. Lakme CC Cream in Bronze
  3. Faces Canada Concealer Stick in Medium
  4. Maybelline New York Clear Glow Pressed Powder in Nude Beige
  5. Beauty UK Blush in Rustic Peach

LOTD: Ashtami Morning

Hi Everyone!

Well, here's my look for  Ashtami Morning of Durga Puja. I decided to go all traditional. Ashtami, traditionally, is the most important day of the festival.

The story of Durgashtami
  • Goddess kali culminated from the forehead of Devi Durga on this day and killed Mahishasur — the king of Demons and his associates—Chanda and Munda.
  • On this day, Mother Durga annihilated Bhairo Nath, an evil 'tantric', in the form of Vaishno Devi. This incident leads to the history of establishment of the pilgrimage of Vaishno devi and it is said that the famous Bhairo nath temple lies at the site where the head of Bhairo Nath fell after being cut off by the Goddess.
Rituals Associated with Durgashtami
  • On this day, all the weapons and artillery that were used for killing Mahishasur by Goddess Durga are worshipped along with the enchanting of mantras. This ritual is known as Astra puja.
  • During the worship of the Mother, the eight avatars of Durga called Ashtanayikas are also worshipped which include Brahmani, Indrani, Vaishnavi, Varahi, Narasinghi, Kameshwari, Maheshwari and Chamunda.
  • 64 Yoginis who are considered the Devi's associates are also worshipped.
  • On this day, the deity is worshipped as Goddess Gauri. To observe this, nine small virgin girls are worshipped, their feet are washed and they are offered halwa (a sweet disg made of semolina, milk, ghee and nuts), puri and kheer a part of the ritual.
  • Durgashtami ends with the Sandhi Puja that ushers the next day Mahanavami.

So, I decided, traditional was the way to go. Wearing a sari was a foregone conclusion.
For my makeup I decided to go with a neutral smokey eye a long with bright red lips.
